Arnold J. Westendorf, 81, of Sumner, died Wednesday evening, January 31, 2017, at his home rural, Sumner, surrounded by his loving family.
A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2017, at the Westendorf’s home of rural, Sumner.
Arnold John, son of Carl and Emma (Brandt) Westendorf was born October 11, 1935 on the family farm of rural, Sumner. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Oran. He received his education in the rural country schools of Sumner. Arnold served in the United States Army from 1960 until being honorably discharged in 1962. He was stationed in Missouri and Illinois during his years of service. On December 16, 1962 he was united in marriage with Diana Schroeder at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Oran. The couple made their home near the farm that Arnold spent his childhood. Arnold farmed for his entire life, which he thoroughly enjoyed and did so up until his health no longer permitted, a few months ago. He was a member of the American Legion. Arnold enjoyed having coffee with the guys, and going on motorcycle rides.
In addition to his wife, Diana, Arnold is survived by his three sons, Rick (Joni) Westendorf of Sumner, Randy (Kathy) Westendorf of Sumner and Ronnie (Damien) Zegoski of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Sena (Bruce) Westendorf, Shawn (Jenny) Westendorf, Jackson Westendorf and Justin (Susie) Lampe; and one great-grandchild, Megan Lampe.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Loren Westendorf; four sisters, Rosie and Margaret Westendorf, Meta Shipp, and Linda Daugherity and one brother-in-law, Melvin Daugherity.
